Garden Party Lemonade

Garden Party Lemonade

1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 5 or 6 lemons)
1 seedless cucumber, peeled and chopped
2 sprig of fresh dill, roughly chopped
¾ cup sugar
1 cup crushed ice
4 cups water

Option Garnishes – lemon slices, dill sprigs, cucumber spear

Blend all ingredients in a blender.

Whoa. This was soooooo yummy! As I was browsing blogs yesterday I came across this recipe from Carol at Simply Gluten Free and something inside said "You must try". And then boom, like a flash of lightning, dill and fresh cucumbers at the farmers market....on the same table even. It was meant to be. Delish.

Mojito

It looks like pondwater" my friend Liz says as she's sipping away at her mojito (I think she said it was her first time drinking one). And then she quips, "shouldn't you take a picture of this?" Since it was cloudy out and turning to evening, I didn't want to pull out my photo light and make a big production in front of my guest. But she's one of the few people reading my blog, and said she didn't mind. Here is the resulting photo **

Something tasted a little off because we had to use Sprite instead of club soda, but we managed to choke them down without too much hassle. There must be an artful way of drinking a mojito without sipping in some mint and subsequently picking it out of your teeth....but we didn't know it. This is the recipe I followed:

INGREDIENTS
10 fresh mint leaves
1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
1 cup ice cubes
1 1/2 fluid ounces white rum
1/2 cup club soda

DIRECTIONS
Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.
** Note: I really wanted to try again with a new photo, so this is one I took outside a few days later. And, darn, I had to drink this one too.

Shaken, Not Stirred

What better way to use that last orange than in an ice-shaken martini....especially on this balmy 70 degree February day! I don't usually measure out my martini ingredients, so here are the vague directions:

Blood Orange Martini

Juice of one orange

Shot (or 2) of vodka

half shot of triple sec

shot of simple syrup

Shake it all together while doing the happy dance. Pour into sugar-rimmed glass. Sip and smile.
